NEW YORK---To celebrate Mandela Day on July 18 – which would have been Nelson Mandela’s 96th birthday – the composer and producer Joel A. Martin, and the South African playwright, director and choreographer Welcome Msomi, have assembled “Footsteps of Mandela,” a style-crossing work for choir, percussionists and solo voices from the jazz and opera worlds. Mr. Martin and Mr. Msomi will present the work at Riverside Church, where Mandela spoke on several occasions. Proceeds from the performance will benefit the Nelson Mandela Foundation , the Simon Estes Foundation and the United Nations Foundation. Information about the streamed version of the concert will be available at footstepsofmandela.org.[link]
