NEW YORK---Religious art and architecture was on full display this weekend, as the fourth annual "Sacred Sites Open House Weekend" took folks on a fascinating journey through the city's churches and culturally important religious institutions. The program, hosted by the New York Landmarks Conservancy, led city dwellers and visitors on a two-day tour inside religious buildings for an opportunity to highlight history, cultural programming and social services that benefit the greater community. Two historic Staten Island congregations opened its doors to the public over the weekend -- Congregation Temple Emanu-El, in Port Richmond, and Free Magyar Reformed Church, located in Charleston.This year's theme was "Sacred Sites and the Community: How Immigration and Migration Shape New York," focusing on the rich histories and important contributions of the city's diverse immigrant communities.
